We also carry a Canon A-1 Waterproof 35
mm film camera. While film is a dying breed,
it makes for a good backup if our digital fails.
The underwater capability of this camera has
allowed us to take some spectacular
photographs.
Canon Digital & Waterproof Cameras

A perfect camera for bicycle touring. The
feather-weight Canon Digital ELPH is the size
of a pack of cigarette. The rechargable
battery stays powered for many hundreds of
photos. A high-quality zoom allows us to get
up close and personal on the subject and the
small one-inch screen does not eat up the
battery like larger screens. It can take short
video clips which are easily edited on the
computer with the provided software.
On our last journey we took thousands of
shots that Amanda called "secret camera".
With the beep on the camera turned off we
would walk through a market or other
picturesque place and snap photos without
looking through the viewfinder. Every-so-often
Rich would delete the junk and keep the best.
Not long before leaving on our cycling journey
Rich found a children's periscope at a swap
meet and made it so that the reflective mirror
would fit over the lens of the camera. Now we
can snap photos at a right angle, capturing
images of people who would otherwise refuse
to pose. Yeah, it's a little sneaky but it works.
UPDATE: No, it did not work. Photo quality
was very poor. Apparently this type of
deflector was once made for 35 mm SLRs.
We have not been sponsored by any company. If a product stinks, we'll tell you.

It was a
good idea but
did not work!
