Why by Bicycle?
While traveling thought Latin America in our
Volkswagen we were constantly hearing stories
about a crazed German cyclist who had landed in
New York three years earlier and had cycled
nearly all of Latin America at a cost of one dollar
a day.

This mythical figure never crossed our path but
the idea captured us.  The simplicity of life we
were experiencing while living in a Volkswagen
van was one of our greatest lessons of that
journey...so we thought we might take it a step
further and live out of a few packs while cycling
through new and interesting places.

Spending a dollar a day is not our goal.
Living...really living....is our goal.  Doing it as
simply as possible is icing on the cake.

Focusing on the basics of life; food, clean water,
shelter, being healthy, and having fun, are the
elements that make up a day on the bike.  We
shall see how it goes.
What did you do with the van?
Being so connected to a giant hunk of metal is
unnatural.  But, what can we do?  It was
unthinkable to sell the van, but leaving it behind
is full of problems.  We did not want to burden
our family or friends with it.  We had to have a
secure place where somebody would care for it
as if it was their own vehicle.

Then one day we found Ronald Greene at
AAAA Auto Storage.  He took us on a tour of his
facility.  It looks like an automotive museum!  It's
secure.  It's clean. He treats the cars as if they
were his own.  What more could we ask for?
No, we did not win the lottery.  We earned
every penny we've spent on this trip.
