The Ritz-Carlton is not in our budget. But our
tent is not the most secure place to store our
gear while we are out and about seeing the sites.
Our PacSafe eXomesh Bag Protectors allow us
to lock up our gear and leave it in the campsite in
our tent without having to worry all day that we're
going to get robbed. While it is not Fort Knox it
keeps all but the most determined theives from
walking away with our gear. We bought them on
eBay.
When parking your bike, leave it in the hardest gear - the one most difficult to pedal. That way if a thief hops on and tries to ride away, they will have a tough time getting away quickly.

We also carry a six-foot
long flexible cable to lock
the bikes in guesthouses
or when shopping. It get
locks with a combination
lock...no need to carry a
key.
This is Rich preparing to cycle out of the
Bangkok railway station at 4 a.m. Notice
the reflective vest and reflective tape stuck
all over the bike. Reflective vests are
available from almost any bicycle shop. The
3M tape is the stuff used on highway guard
rails in the U.S. We purchased strips of it on
eBay for a few dollars.
