Ride/Road  - Highway 4 south.  Sealed with wide
shoulder.  Traffic is light to moderate. Scenery is very
tropical, lush and green.

Hills - Hilly ride, with some steep climbs.  Steep climb
begins about 9 kilometers north of town after the
waterfall rest area.

Nice waterfall rest stop with western toilet just about 9
miles from town.  Rested at waterfall.

Ranong is a very touristy town along the Indian Ocean
and just a few miles from Myanmar.  Ranong was
started as a tin mining town by the Chinese.  Tohere
are still a few Chinese style-houses, but today the town
has lost all its character and is now a cramped,
chaotic commercial center with a lot of congested
traffic.  The main street is clogged with scooters, cars
and tuk tuks.  Facilities for tourists are plentiful as
many foreigners come to Ranong to make a run for the
border and renew their Thai Visa in Myanmar.
Other reasons to hang around are the hot springs at
the Jansom Thara Hotel. The town has two open
markets on the main road across from each other with
plenty of food stalls and fresh fruit and vegetables.
Tops Supermarket is north of town on highway 4.

Slept - Mallika Bungalows
Location - Off the main street. On the road toward the
Royal Princess hotel.  On left hand side.  Has a sign
but is not too obvious.
Cost - 500 b
Amenities - New motel style bungalows.  One story
building with attached units.  Room included a/c,
fridge, TV with one English movie channel.  Nice
bathroom with hot water.
Lock bikes on our patio right outside our unit.  Very
safe.
