Day 5 Hoi An to Tam Key, VIetnam Kilometers 60 Miles 37.4
|
Ride/Road - Out of Hoi An we took Phan Chu Trinh
Rd toward Tam Key. This is a minor road, sealed
with no shoulder and a steady stream of traffic.
While we pedaled on the minor road we had to ask
locals directions to Tam Key to make sure were
going in the right direction. We were glad we
asked because there was one fork in the road that
we had to take a left turn toward Hwy 1A. We
would have missed it if we had not asked a local
for directions.
After 10 kilometers on the secondary road we
joined Hwy 1A to Tam Key.
Once on Hwy 1 the road continues to be sealed
with a wide shoulder. The traffic was hectic and
congested. We were as alert as we have been
since we started cycling in Asia.
The road is populated the entire way with
numerous towns and opportunities for food
(restaurants/shops/vendors carts, and rest/pee
stops at gas stations.
Tam Key is a big town and the capital of the
Quang Nam province. It is very built up,
commercial place with plenty of shops, internet,
restaurants, food vendors and hotels.
Tam Key has a large open market just south of the
Hoang Ngoc Hotel on a side street that comes off
the main road, Trang Nu Voung (Hwy 1), with
plenty of places to eat and shop.
Slept - Hoang Ngoc Hotel
Cost - 150,000 Dong ($9.40)
Location - Trang Nu Voung. A cross street off Hwy
1. The hotel is on the left side if heading south on
Hwy 1, about 2 kilometers north of Tam Key center.
Amenities - Two double beds, en suite bath with
hot shower, western toilet. TV with numerous
English channels, a/c/Fan, mini-bar.
Bikes were locked inside a garage with a metal
door next to the hotel. Perfectly safe.
Other accommodations - Tam Key has numerous
hotel options for every price range. Newer hotels
seem to be at the north end of town, about two
kilometers out.
