Ortlieb Bike Packer Plus Pannier
Those Germans make some really great bike
touring products. Ortlieb panniers are some of
the best available for a number of reasons.
We purchase all of our panniers from ebay so
we've provided some helpful links to current
eBay listings on the left.
The Ortlieb packs are completely waterproof,
so much so that we are able to use them as
buckets when we wash our clothing.
The mounting system on the back side of the
packs actually clamps onto the rack so the
packs do not jump off the bike when we go over
bumpy roads.
A common complaint about Ortlieb panniers is
that they are like giant sacks with no pockets.
When digging through a pannier full of
disorganized junk it is difficult to find any one
item.
The Eagle Creek Packing Cubes fit perfectly
inside the Ortlieb panniers and allows us to
organize our things in a few easy-to-grab
cubes. Rich stuffs his down jacket into one of
the cubes and uses as a pillow.
We have not been sponsored by any company. If a product stinks, we'll tell you.

UPDATE
Ortlieb uses two different
materials for their
panniers. The more
expensive packs are
made using a cloth like
fabric from Dupont. The
problem with this
material is that it takes a
while to dry and mud
clings to it much easier
than the material used to
make the less expensive
panniers. Buy the
cheaper ones!
